How it works

An explanation of the work we do

Most people think of vision as simply being about how clearly you can see. But real, functional vision is much more than that.

What you "see" is actually the result of a complex system working behind the scenes — including posture, eye movements, focusing skills, depth perception, hand-eye coordination, and how the brain processes visual information.

In behavioural optometry, we look at all the building blocks that come together to create effective vision. These include:

  • Postural reflexes — How the body stabilises itself to allow the eyes to move and focus properly.

  • Visual motor skills — How well the eyes coordinate with each other and with the rest of the body.

  • Visual processing skills — How the brain makes sense of what the eyes are seeing.

Think of it like football.

To be good at the game, you need to be able to pass, shoot, dribble, defend, and run.

You might be fantastic at passing but struggle with shooting, or you might be quick on your feet but have trouble controlling the ball.

Each skill is different — and weakness in just one area can affect your overall performance.

Vision works in the same way.

You can have clear eyesight, but if one of the underlying visual skills is weak — like eye tracking, focusing, or processing what you see — it can cause problems with reading, attention, learning, and even behaviour.

Our Process

Assessment
We begin by carrying out detailed assessments to identify exactly which visual skills are working well and which may need support.

Creating a Treatment Plan
Once we understand the individual's unique visual profile, we design a therapy programme targeted at the specific skills that need strengthening.

Vision Therapy
Vision therapy is like training for the visual system — a structured series of exercises and activities that help to build and improve visual skills over time.

Our goal is to help each person achieve the most efficient, comfortable, and effective vision possible — giving them the strong foundation they need for learning, development, and life.
